I emailed my sister and ask her about the possibility of Nino getting Oscar.
she is definitely NOT a fangirl. at least nothing of Johnny's. Back home, you could hear Arashi from my room, Dir~en~Grey or Miyavi from her room and Winning Eleven from my brother's.
anyway, her quick reply is :
"of course, NONE. because for the speech when receiving it, Nino has to learn more English than just "bye bye"."
you see, what amused her the most about Arashi is how in concert they said byebye but then appeared again and said byebye again then appeared again and if we're lucky they would do it for the third time. so she quickly judge that our boys don't understand the meaning of 'byebye' and I would have hard time to convince her that Sho really graduated from Keio.
Don't mad at her, she doesn't mean any harm. and I also don't like Dir~en~Grey.
I really really looking forward for the announcement of Golden Globe and Oscar. Iwojima and Watanabe-san will do just fine, but what'll happen to my dear son?
If he couldn't make it, then surely some judges need to be replaced, but it would be very interesting if he could make it.
Now let me be honest. I want him to get that. we're all are, we love him and want the whole wide world know how amazing Nino is. but somewhere deep in my head - I don't know anything about how they choose a winner, I only know it's a vote or something - if the judges learn about Nino, will they insert a Japanese boyband member into Academy Award Best Supporting Actor Nominee? I mean, they know nothing about how Japanese boyband is not just boyband and stuff, they only know he's a boyband member. period.
I start to hate myself for typing this, but I want to keep rational mind in order to avoid being gloomed for over a month if he couldn't make it. Isn't it funny that the smallest things will affect fangirls?
So far, all the critics have been quite reserved. That's what I feel. Even when [Letters] is being given the biggest award, they were given practically nothing else in the other categories - the acting ones especially and the critics have mention how [Letters] has superior acting. It's such a contradiction. It seems like "star power" is obviously also a part of the Globe and Oscar game. It's also irritating the heck out of me as I follow the news more and more. The signals are getting more mixed. It's getting raved, but it's not getting enough awards. They also need to look beyond Ken-san more to find Nino.

my reply to your post would be similar to tokki's : http://tokki.vox.com/library/post/opposite-directions.html#comment-6a00c2252385da8fdb00cd97046bef4cd5
I think I have to make a post on this...
Don't get depressed dearie if he didn't get it. More Nino for us, less of him to the world

Yup, the world don't know what they would be missing out on if they miss Nino. In Japan, Nino is definitely getting his fair share of the spotlight though... at least from the media. That's what I feel.

If the smallest things won't affect us, then we can't live up to our reputation as 'fangirls' lol.
Of course we'll be so proud if he gets it, but if he doesn't, at least he has become more well-known in Japan because of this..it could well prove to be a stepping stone to more great things :)
And I'm hoping that he at least attends the Oscars and that we get to see him walk down the red carpet and participate in some interviews with the western media!
