I've only been in two cities in Japan, Tokyo for a week and Nagoya now for almost two months.
the fashion is just...like what we see in dorama.
In tokyo, it's hard to find a girl without boots. all kind of boots. japan is paradise of boots. and for those who always follow latest trend, the girls are looking exactly the same. kawaii.
and the boys...they're cute. in Nagoya, it's easy to find really cute people. looking at boys around me, I even think some of Johnny's member don't qualified to be called 'cute'. of course it's only about outer look. what I love the most is when I'm in tokyo, the hotel I stayed in was located in working neighborhood, and I can see youngsters (20-30) in their neat black working suit, but I can still feel the fashion seeing their hair and accesories.
in a special class with Japanese students, we talked about Japan's fashion trend, and some of them said that as a youngsters, they do feel the pressure to always keep up with the latest fashion, to have brand goods, and one of the girl said that her friend called her and said she was very worried of not getting any friend since she has no brand goods. my university (Nagoya University) is a bit different and I can see people who don't really dressed up here and there, but they said, if you go to tokyo, you have to dressed up.
Then there's host and cabaret girl. When I first came here, I don't really know about host, but now I define them as "those really kakkoii people with long legs and porcelain face and dragonball-like hair". dangerous for your wallet though. sometimes I met them in train or in the city's centre (I don't know how to say that in english), mostly on Sundays, since I don't go out often (my dormitory isn't in the city's centre).
something that start to bother the students I met in class is how the generations under them really become fashion-concious from very early age. in that class, most of us were born in Showa period (80~ I don't really sure about the year). right now is Heisei period, and they said, the generation born in Heisei is different with Showa. well, generation gap is the same all around the world, but kids really dressed up here. parents also dressing them up. but again, it's what I see, I don't know how is it in other region.
Thanks for the report! yay.. the girls from doramas are so cute.. i love their clothes ^^
